Sarah Young joins Scott Hanselman to discuss Azure Sentinel, which is a scalable, cloud-native, security information event management (SIEM) and security orchestration automated response (SOAR) solution. Azure Sentinel delivers intelligent security analytics and threat intelligence across the enterprise, providing a single solution for alert detection, threat visibility, proactive hunting, and threat response.

If any company takes the idea that “data is the new oil” to heart, it’s Facebook. Here’s a sobering interview with Yael Eisenstat, a former Facebook employee, by WIRED Magazine about the consequences of it all.

The titans of social media are trapped, and we’re all suffering for it. As free services, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube monetize you by keeping you engaged, so they can show you more ads. The services are designed to exploit our brain chemistry, flashing us notifications and giving us one more hit of algorithm-recommended video. If they didn’t, their revenue would dwindle and shareholders would be unhappy.

In this latest deeplizard video , they code a training loop run builder class that will allows for multiple runs with varying parameters. This aids with experimentation of the neural network training process. Remember, it’s called data science and experimentation is part and parcel of the process.

Jim Simons was a mathematician and cryptographer who realized: the complex math he used to break codes could help explain patterns in the world of finance. Billions later, he’s working to support the next generation of math teachers and scholars.

In this video, TED’s Chris Anderson sits down with Simons to talk about his extraordinary life in numbers.

The future of shipping looks very much unmanned.

Today, container ships transport more than 90% of all goods in the world, but it can take over a month for those goods to sail from Beijing to New York. Automated cargo drones could be the disruption needed in a global supply chain that has been largely unchanged since the 1950s. By land, trucks move nearly 71% of all freight tonnage in the US, but there’s a shortage of truck drivers in the United States. So how do you speed up shipments while keeping personnel low?

I think we know how.

In this video, Siraj Raval explores Automatic Machine Learning or “AutoML,” a field of Artificial Intelligence that’s gaining a lot of ground of late. The idea is that doing any kind of task related to machine learning involves a whole lot of steps like cleaning a dataset, choosing a model, deciding what the right configurations of that model should be, deciding what the most relevant features are etc.

From the video description:

The goal of AutoML is to automate all of that up to a point where all a data scientist would need to do is tell a machine to perform some task using a dataset and wait for it to learn how by itself. In this episode, i’m going to explain several popular AutoML techniques, then compare top AutoML frameworks like AutoKeras, Auto Sklearn, h20, Ludwig, etc. to help you decide which one will be the best for your needs.

As we begin season 3 of Data Driven, Frank and Andy wanted to bring it back to the guy who inspired the entire show: John Lee Dumas. Although not yet quite a household name, JLD as he’s known to his fans, is the host of Entrepreneurs on Fire, an award winning podcast where he interviews inspiring Entrepreneurs who are truly ON FIRE. With over 2000 episodes, 1 million + listens a month, and seven-figures of annual revenue, JLD is just getting started.

Not to stop there, the Data Driven dynamic duo want to bring the heat and turn up the tech intensity levels to 11 with a virtual summit that covers everything data from soup to nuts. To that end, we are launching the Data Soup Virtual Summit. And are souper excited to give Data Driven Listeners a Discount (70% until Aug 5, 2019; 50% afterwards).
