My Thoughts on the Silverlight vs HTML5 Debate

Scott Guthrie has a lot to say about the future of Silverlight in light of some of the mixed messages coming out of the PDC.

Here’s what I have to say and since a picture is worth 1000 words: here’s my 1k on the subject:

html5spice

That’s right. I said it.

While I think HTML5 does bring some exciting things to the RIA table, keep in mind that it’s more or less the same web development platform we work with (and sometimes against) in the 1990s.

That’s not to say that sometimes a reunion tour isn’t a bad idea, but the hysteria and hype over what HTML5 will do has gotten out of hand.

While HTML5 is still a work in progress, even when it’s finished it won’t be the fluffy unicorn/double rainbow paradise it’s being made out to be.

No matter what the standard is, every browser on every platform is going to be different.

So, even when it is ready, it won’t live up to the hype.

The web and web developers deserve better than HTML5.
