IE8 Traffic Web Slice <3 New York

Yesterday, the Traffic Web Slice wanted to meet me in St. Louis, today it loves New York.

I love New York, too. It's my hometown and from time to time I miss the hustle and bustle.

However, I live in DC and, aside from mere curiosity, rarely care to know about the traffic situation in the Big Apple. (It's always bad.)

So, here are my theories as to what's going on:

The Web slice knows I'm a fan of the Yankees and this is somehow related to their schedule.
IE8 randomly scans my brain for hints as to what I'm thinking about. Today, I must have been thinking about good New York style pizza; yesterday I must have been thinking about beer.
The web slice is funded by the tourist boards of various cities
The web slice is funded by DC, who wants to show you that we're not the only city with bad traffic.
The web slice just loves me so much it wants to take me on a virtual tour of US cities.

My vote is for number five.

IE8 just wants to make browsing an adventure again and it's taking me on a whirlwind tour of the US.

Where will it take me next? Miami? Denver? Las Vegas? Who knows?!

See, browsing is an adventure again!

Windows "Vienna" Due in 2009

Sure, Windows Vista just came out, but people are already talking about the next version of Windows, dubbed "Vienna."

Microsoft is looking to avoid another five year span between OS releases and a 2009 target launch date would give Vista a two to three year lifespan as their flagship product.

Talk of Vienna should also put to rest, the ridiculous notion that the Vista is "end of the operating system." Or, my favorite absurd rumor that goes something like: "this is Microsoft's last version of Windows and all updates will be delivered via updates."

Rumors abound that WinFS will be among the feature set of Vienna.

WinFS was one of the truly innovative features dropped from Vista. It basically merged the file system with a database engine, making searches, tagging, and organizing content much more practical.

Hopefully, the technology will re-appear in the future and not stay in software limbo for much longer.
