Speaking of Richmond Code Camp, I’m happy to report that today’s Richmond Code Camp had record attendance and an awesome line up of speakers.

I often think back to when Andy and I started it in 2006 and how many people told us that there’d never be a Code Camp in Richmond. I imagine those same people are eating their words when they saw that today’s Code Camp had roughly 400 registered attendees.

It just goes to show you that, if you believe in something, go for it: no matter how many people say you can’t do it.

J. Sargeant Reynolds was an excellent facility and Andy gave a great keynote.

Attendance was incredible.

This is the first RCC when it didn't rain and, best of all the JSR Campus had a nice place to eat outside.

At Richmond Code Camp

I left Maryland bright & early this morning to make it down to my old stomping grounds in time for Andy Leonard's excellent keynote.

This is the First Code Camp at J. Seargint Reynolds new library and all I could say is "wow!"

The facility is incredible and is an excellent place to grow.

Right now I'm in the auditorium listening to James Avery talk on business aspects of consulting.

While not a technical talk, so many folks in our industry are independent contractors, it's quite appropriate for a Code Camp.

Richmond Code Camp Tomorrow!

How time flies:

I've been married for four months
I met my wife 2 and a half years ago
Andy Leonard and I held the first Richmond Code Camp two and a half years ago.

In that time, the developer community in Richmond has flourished with new user groups, regular geek dinners and a great leadership team.

Tomorrow, Richmond has its sixth Code Camp when Richmond Code Camp 2008.2 kicks off.

In late 2005/early 2006, many a smart people told me it couldn't be done, but just three years later, the Developer Community in Richmond is on a roll!

Today is your last day to register. Please register if you plan to attend.

It helps immensely with event planning and coordination.

Andy Leonard just sent out this reminder email chock full of goodness:

We've moved! The new location is J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College's Massey Library Technology Center located at 1651 East Parham Road Richmond, VA 23228.
There are some awesome speakers scheduled to present equally awesome presentations! Best of all, it's free!

Richmond Code Camp 2008.2

Mark the date: Richmond Code Camp 2008.2 will take place on October 4th, 2008!

From the email Andy Leonard sent out:

On October 4^th, 2008, we will have a beautiful, new venue for our Code Camp at the J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College Library Technology Center (LTC) in the West End of Richmond.

The LTC has a large, modern auditorium, state-of-the-art classrooms, free WiFi networking and plenty of amenities for both structured and unstructured learning throughout the day. Parking is also free and there's plenty of it. A continental breakfast and lunch will also be provided.

We are featuring 19 speakers from the local community as well 16 speakers travelling from 8 other states ranging from Indiana to New Jersey to South Carolina and all points in between. Of course we have strong Application Development, Business Intelligence, Database Development, SharePoint and Software Methodology tracks as usual.
But this year, we're adding an impressive Career & Professional Development track, an Emerging Languages track and a very strong Mobile Application Development track to the mix.
The last interesting new addition this time is the inclusion of five Open Spaces slots throughout the day. If you have something on your mind and you don't see a presentation that will help you discuss it, come to the Open Spaces room and set up your own conversation with your peers.

In case you're wondering, I'm not the guy from NJ -- I'll be representing Maryland. :)

I'll be there to give my talk on Graphic Design for Developers and host an open space on Tablet PC development.

Richmond Code Camp 4 is this Saturday!

Due to a hectic schedule and prior commitment, I will not be able to make it to Richmond Code Camp this time around. :(

Andy, Susan, Kevin, Darrell and Robin all have worked hard to have a great day of fun and learning planned.

I understand that RCC4 is breaking all previous sign up records, but It's still not too late to reserve a seat. Register now.
